Who is a catechist?

Catechist is a person of faith who leads others in understanding the faith teachings according to the official teachings of the Church.

Catechists are people who are called by God to minister and educate the world. Catechesis aims to bring about in the believer an ever more mature faith in Jesus Christ.

Catechists play a very important role in the evangelizing mission of the Church. Passing on the faith as well as deepening one’s own understanding and commitment to living the faith is a privilege,  and responsibility derived from one’s Baptism in Christ. Therefore it is important that everyone called to participate in this mission have not only a mature and living adult faith, but also possess both the understanding and the skill to share it effectively.
